According to
statistics, China has a floriculture area of 120 thousand hectares and a
sales volume of beyond 54 billion Yuan, with the output of fresh-cut
flower of 2.7 billion pieces and the pot plants of 2.1 billion pots. The
comprehensive quality of flower product has been improved, and the
products have been diversified and developed from potted flower and
small pot flower into five categories including fresh-cut flower, potted
flower, ornamental, lawn and traditional potted tree, to meet the
requirements of different consumers on flower products basically.
According to the
requirements of industrialization of floriculture, the regions in
China are transiting from the advantages on resources into the
advantages on commodities, from individuated production into
commercialized, intensive and professional production, from field
planting into the planting combined with field and greenhouse, and
from distributed operation into intensive operation. The
conventional production areas continue to expand the advantages, and
the new production areas concentrate on integration, which promote
the adjustment and optimization of regional layout significantly.
Presently, the regional layout of China floriculture has been
optimized greatly, and has established the production region of
fresh-cut flower mainly in Yunnan, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong,
Sichuan and Hebei, the production region of nursery stock and
ornamental mainly in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Sichuan, Guangdong, Fujian
and Hainan, the production region of potted tree mainly in Jiangsu,
Guangdong, Zhejiang, Fujian and Sichuan, the production region of
bulbar flowers mainly in Sichuan, Yunnan, Shanghai, Liaoning,
Shaanxi and Gansu. The traditional production regions also further
strengthen and develop the advantageous varieties, such as the
fresh-cut flower in Yunnan.
In viewing
the future, we shall aware that the floriculture in China has a
lot of advantageous conditions: Firstly, China is one of the
original production areas of flower on the world, with a history
of floriculture of beyond 2000 years and abundant germ plasma
resources. Secondly, China has broad territory, wide range of
climate zones and strong ecological advantages on resources.
Thirdly, China has abundant labor resources, low cost on flower
products and significant advantages on prices. Fourthly, with
the continual development of the national economy of China, the
consumption of flower on festival and celebration and the group
consumption will increase continuously, creating profound market
prospect. Fifthly, China¡¯s entering into the WTO will provide
favorable opportunities for the export of flowers and to earn
foreign exchanges.
Therefore, the development of floriculture in China shall
adopt the market as the orientation and the social services
as the methods, and based on technology advancement, adjust
and optimize the layout and structure, implement the
strategy of high quality and famous brand strongly, promote
the construction of market system actively, and make efforts
to improve the level of intensity and the comprehensive
qualification. In the coming several years, the floriculture
shall stabilize the planting area, focus on quality and
increase the profits. Till 2005, the floriculture in China
shall achieve the self-sufficiency of national flower bulbar
(pot) flower production, complete varieties, improved
quality and year-round supply of fresh-cut flower, continual
development of ornamental production, obvious improvement on
quality of potted tree and great expansion of domestic and
overseas market, substantial development and sufficient
market supply of ornamental vertical greenery stock, lawn
and rooted flower, and thus realize the professional
production, scientific management and socialized services of
flower industry basically as well as the general goal of
year-round supply.
